What’s the difference between financial advisors and financial planners?

How to financial planners help their clients?

How do I make sure a financial planner has my best interests in mind?

These are some of the questions I answer on today’s episode.  Financial planners can bring tremendous value to their clients.  Their work goes above and beyond budgeting and paying off debt.

I also discuss how a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) helped me and Tracy, and inspired me to pursue a career as a CFP.  Even though we didn’t have complex needs, our CFP helped us prioritize emergency savings instead of paying off student loans quicker.  We’re glad we listened to that advice, because only a few months after we got married, Tracy was laid off from her job.
